DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED CHANGE

Replace existing Article to insert a new Sentence (2) which recognizes NFPA 10 as a means of complying with the inspection requirements for portable fire extinguishers.

EXISTING OFC PROVISIONS

6.2.7.1.

Maintenance and testing of portable extinguishers shall be in conformance with NFPA 10, “Portable Fire Extinguishers”.

PROPOSED OFC CHANGE

6.2.7.1.

(1) Maintenance and testing of portable extinguishers shall be in conformance with NFPA 10, “Portable Fire Extinguishers”.

(2) Portable extinguishers that are inspected in conformance with NFPA 10, “Portable Fire Extinguishers” shall be deemed to satisfy the inspection requirements of this Subsection.

RATIONALE FOR CHANGE

This change corresponds to a technical change being proposed to the National Fire Code and is presented here for possible adoption into the Ontario Fire Code as part of the code harmonization initiative. The change may have been edited to reflect the Ontario Fire Code context.

The Fire Code should recognize the current standard as an acceptable method of compliance for inspection, testing and maintenance.

As a distributor of Strike First Corp. fire extinguishers we would like to make all of our clients aware of the voluntary safety recall on certain makes and models of their products. These products on recall will be replaced at no cost to our clients during our regular yearly inspections.
