H2O Fire Services wasn't started as a business opportunity. It was started because fire took something from us — and we decided to spend our lives making sure it couldn't take anything from anyone else.
May 17, 1978
Mary Hetherington loses her life to a house fire, leaving her four children without their mother. Two of those sons — Andy and Steven — carry that loss with them for the rest of their lives. It becomes the quiet force behind everything H2O would eventually become.
1991
Andy and Steven begin a part-time sole proprietorship in fire protection. Not because of the business opportunity — but because they feel compelled to prevent other families from experiencing what theirs did. The work is personal from day one.

What began as a calling becomes a company. H2O Fire Services is formally incorporated as the business grows across Southern Ontario, building a reputation for certified, reliable fire protection that the brothers can be proud of.
September 15, 2016
Andy's neighbour's home catches fire. Without hesitation, he runs in. Before entering, he turns to those watching and says — “If I'm not out in 30 seconds, come get me.” He extinguishes the fire and saves the home of Yue and Shui Chan, an elderly couple who had nowhere else to go. It is the kind of moment that reminds everyone why this work matters.

A house fire breaks out in The Guild in Scarborough — next door to where current team member Liam Ferguson has spent his life. His neighbour and lifelong friend loses nearly everything. Liam joins H2O Fire Services shortly after, driven by the same thing that drove Andy and Steven decades earlier. Some people find this work. This work found us.

H2O Fire Services receives approval from the Electrical Safety Authority to operate as a Licensed Electrical Contractor — ESA Licence No. 7019061. A milestone that reflects years of technical investment and expands the scope of what H2O can deliver for clients across Ontario.
